    Historic Taos Home in Great Location

    Casa Carlos is a lovely, historic home beautifully decorated with authentic southwest charm. It is within easy walking distance to the town center and easy drives to the Taos Pueblo, Ski Valley, Rio Grande bridge and many other areas of interest. The significant plus is a serene, peaceful outdoor space with gardens, various comfortable seating areas, a fire pit and hot tub. We spent a great deal of time in this outdoor setting after spending the day out and about. The home is well-equipped with everything you need. It is an old home so it has its quirks, but to us that’s what made it more special. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.

    The words 'wonderful' and 'fantastic' are overused in reviews, so let's just say the 3 of us were utterly charmed by this property. It is obviously historic and reflects that, but it is also perfectly appointed, perfectly comfortable, perfectly situated, and we could have happily stayed longer than the three days we had.

    We have rented this house twice and love it. Its walkable to everything in town and only 30 minutes to the ski mountain. Gorgeous historic vibe and a great hot tub in the back courtyard for after-ski.

    We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Carlos. The location is prime, it's quiet yet close to the plaza. And it is such a special space - There is so much charm and love in it. The renovations are incredible and it's sprinkled with great art and funky decor - each piece felt hand-picked and placed with love and intention. Our favorite thing was sipping coffee in the mornings by the kiva fireplace and jamming great tunes on the record player.
    We were here in the winter and didn't see the beautiful garden out back that we read about - but, the backyard does feel like its own oasis. To come back to the hot tub after an afternoon hike was perfect!
    Can't say enough good things about the property manager, Linda. Everything was perfect when we arrived and she was easy to communicate with. Our stay was great; we wouldn't change a thing. We highly recommend Casa Carlos if you're coming to Taos. It's a gem!

    Charming Casita Close to Historic Downtown

    Both inside and outside delightful. Comfortable, artistic and very well equipped. Loved all the local and indigenous art throughout the house. Everything you need in the kitchen and bath. The backyard was an oasis with multiple sitting areas, a hot tub and small pond with waterfall.

    Casa Carlos is a wonderfully warm, friendly and appointed home. It was the perfect space and made our stay in Taos perfect. Additionally.     Our third stay at this Taos Mexican-era adobe was something to look forward to.     You never know what to expect when arriving at a rental property. But we were pleasantly surprised!! Casa Carlos was welcoming, spacious, clean & well thought out. There are tags throughout the house that guide you so there is no confusion as to how anything works, etc. The location can't be beat. It is walking distance to the plaza, restaurants, shops. We would definitely stay there again!

    19th Century Adobe Meets Modern Luxury

    Casa Carlos is an amazing collision of early 19th century adobe architecture and modern luxury. That is, classic thick adobe walls, arched entrances, and vigas meet a hot tub under the stars, large walk-in shower, and radiant-heated Saltillo tile floors. For a home that is somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 years old, it has been lovingly restored with meticulous attention to detail. The décor is simply lovely as is the high desert lush oasis found in the backyard. The bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped and a joy to cook in. Situated in a historic neighborhood on a slight rise, it is an easy 10-minute walk to the Taos Plaza. This is our second week-long stay and we’re angling to return in the future.

    Perfect location and beautiful back garden with multiple seating areas made this property ideal. Great for stargazing in the evening. Easy walk to Taos Plaza.     This is wonderful little cottage very close to town. Walk in 10 minutes or less. Been here a few times and keep returning due to proximity to town and great amenities. Backyard very calming and a great outdoor room. Beds very comfortable. Great shower and hot tub!

    Great house for a couple or family. We (couple) stayed here for a week and did our laptop-jobs from here during the day and explored Taos at night. Loved the house.     Casa Carlos is simply gorgeous. Located a short stroll from the historic Taos Plaza, this very old adobe invites you to come inside. Look around: two foot thick, white-washed adobe walls, restored logs and woodwork of the viga ceilings, beautifully curated furniture and interior decor, a gas kiva fireplace and, for fun, a turntable. The traditional Saltillo tile floor is warm in cold weather thanks to radiant heating yet cool when it is hot outside. The king bed is very comfortable. The large light-filled tiled shower is luxurious. And, the kitchen is not only well stocked, but is a delightful place to prepare a meal on unique tile counters. Walk out the back door and your focus is drawn to a sandstone waterfall and pond in the far corner of a lovely back yard divided between the cooling landscape of grasses and trees and a hardscape of sculpted deck and sandstone pavers. The comfortable outdoor furniture, gas fired grill and hot tub draw you to relax outdoors under bright blue or starlit New Mexico skies. We instantaneously felt at home in this unique home and are planning to stay again at Casa Carlos on our next trip to Taos.

    Third Stay at Casa Carlos in Taos, NM

    Casa Carlos is a historical prperty in Taos. It is only 4 blocks from the Taos Plaza and one of the best VRBO we have rented. The exterior is maintained the same as it was originally while the interior has been renovated. The backyard is lovely with a water feature and hot tub, Perfect area for our dog. A number of dog friendly restaurants are nearby and there are excellent hiking trails just outside the city area. The altitude is 7000 ft and therefore the weather is perfect, certainly cooler than our home in Tucson.

    We stayed here for 5 weeks so we really got to know this house, and we loved it, no complaints at all.     Casa Carlos was perfect for my wife and I. It was walking distance to town and restaurants. It was clean, had everything you needed and back garden was peaceful snd serene. The bed was very comfortable, shower was great and linens were clean and good quality. Next time we come out this way we would definitely rent ghis house. Neighbors were very nice as well

    The description was accurate - the house had everything we needed; wonderful Taos decor. The washer dryer turned out to be handy. The hot tub was great after a day of hard hiking. 10 minute walk to the main plaza. My only complaint? The very sturdy bedframe was a bit hard on knees and toes in the dark so put a white towel over the corner so it is more visible! Just a wonderful stay. Would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended.

    Romantic Ski Weekend in Taos

    This property was an excellent choice. I’m so glad we stayed here. It is a really cool historic home with all of the character of old New Mexico combined with modern amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed coffee by the old style hearth each morning. The hot tub under the stars with cold winter air was incredible after a day of skiing. For the nights stayed in, the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, with all the cooking basics covered - oil, salt, pepper, etc. The location was perfect. Close to the historic square and all the great restaurants in town. You will not be disappointed if you stay here.

    This is the second time we have stayed at Casa Carlos. It is a historic property very close to the central plaza in Taos, in walking distance of many of the popular restaurants. It has a well landscaped back yard with a water feature and hot tub that is perfect for our yellow lab. Although a historic building built in the early years of Taos the property has been updated with heated floors, a modern kitchen and bath and a nice living area with cable TV and a large collection of movies and DVDs. Linda that caretaker is very responsive to any issues. We are already planning for our next stay in 2020.

    Such a charming home and the back yard was amazing. Super clean. The hot tub was broken on the first night, but they let me know in advance and had it fixed the next day... and they made up for it with a nice bottle of wine. I definitely plan to stay here again!     2nd time visit to Casa Carlos. As good as the first. Quiet. Comfortable. Well maintained. This ideally located for those wanting to visit the town but also take in whats immediately outside the town. Easy walks to downtown restaurants, hikes near by on the Rio Grande, picture taking everywhere in the Kit Carson Forest. And the hot tub is perfect and private after a long day out! Perfect for a weekend or longer stay. Love this place.

    Loved that it was stocked with games and puzzles-they kept my daughter occupied. Beautiful gas fireplace and gorgeous back yard. Only drawback would be the busy road at front of house with no real sidewalk-could be dangerous for little kids but the backyard makes up for it.

    Casa Carlos in Taos is a perfect rental as it is near the historic area with great restaurants in walking distance. It has a fenced backyard that our dog enjoyed while we soaked in the hot tub. The kitchen is very well stocked and the large living room is an enjoyable area after a day hiking in the mountains around Taos. The king size bed was very comfortable and the cool nights were great for sleeping as, although in the city, the location is quiet. We have rented three houses in Taos but Casa Carlos is by far the best. We do plan to return next year.

    This is our Fourth time staying at Casa Carlos. The location is wonderful. Short walk to the Plaza. We love that it is a historic home. Comfortable king size bed with nice bedding.
    New refrigerator and the property was clean. We spent much of our time in the serene back yard. We ate our meals in the back yard. Observed numerous birds including hawks and blue jays. Very quiet area. Very helpful property manager: Linda.

    Driving down from Utah, my wife and I met our daughter in Taos for time together at Casa Carlos. We have stayed is this comfortable space several times over the past few years. This stay was as good as past stays. And this time we made a prior reservation to visit Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in Abiquiu. Glad we did that and drove the enchanted circle.

    This has been one of our favorite getaway's. Casa Carlos was perfect, you felt like you were at home. The location is one of the reasons we chose Casa was only about a 5 minute walk to the plaza for shopping and dinning. There is a grocery store {Smiths} near by could walk {10 min. walk} but chose to drive. And when you came back from shopping and day trips the hot tub was there waiting for you to enjoy relaxation while enjoying star gazing. Linda, the caretaker, she always responded to your texts/calls promptly. The Casa Carlos is a beautiful place to stay.

    It was great! We have stayed in many places in Taos, from hotels, B&B, and vrbo. Casa Carlos was perfect for us. The 2nd bdrm is small with no chest or closet. It was fine for the 2 of us but might be tight for 2 couples.

    Casa Carlos is located within walking distance of the Taos town center. We walked everywhere and enjoyed seeing the area along the way. Close to grocery, too. Loved the true historic feel of the place. Simply outstanding!

    Casa Carlos is a perfect example of a historic Adobe that has been updated with modern ammenities and still keeping with the historic charm. This was my second stay at Casa Carlos -- trip number 8 to Taos -- and it was awesome. The house is spacious and located in a neighborhood walking distance to Taos Plaza. The backyard is amazing complete with pond, grassy area, trees, shrubs, flowering plants, and hot tub. Backyards this lush are not the typical fare in Taos. I strongly recommend Casa Carlos for those travelers that want to experience the real deal in Taos!

    We had a wonderful stay in our Adobe Casa in Taos. This is our third stay at Casa Carlos. We feel like we come home when we stay there. We enjoy cooking in the bright kitchen. The back yard is wonderful and we were able to relax. Although it was quite hot in Taos during our stay the house stays cool. We walked to the plaza often.

    I really can't say enough about how wonderful casa carlos is. It was my first trip to Taos and staying there made the trip complete. It was extremely clean and stocked with everything you might need. The history behind the adobe just adds to it's true Taos feel. The furniture was oversized and comfortable,as well as the bed,which I slept so well in! The backyard is a perfect, private spot for relaxing, especially the hot tub! And my dog loved the yard just as much as I did.The location is perfect for enjoying all that Taos has to offer.

    This home is quiet, comfortable, and beautiful. We enjoyed its peaceful location and its lovely yard, including the hot tub. The kitchen and laundry room had all the amenities we needed. The beds were very comfortable and we left Taos well rested. The books in the living room elucidated the history of the home and the local artistic community over time, which added to our enjoyment of Taos and this home. I would love to return again and would gladly recommend this place to friends. Garden and Soul was our favorite store; it offered a wide variety of Southwestern art and ceramics as well as a chance to create unique tiles from our own photographs. The Taos Diner was delicious and we ate there twice. The Black Mesa wines were outstanding! Can't wait to return to Taos!

    From the moment I set foot in Casa Carlos, I knew I was in for a relaxing treat. The decor is lovely and soothing; the furniture is comfortable; the mattress is nice and firm; the linens are fluffy. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking implements and dishes. The dishwasher and w/d work great. The garden tub is spacious and the shower has plenty of water pressure. The hot tub hit the spot, and the backyard is great for relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee while listening to the fountain gurgle. (As a geriatric provider, I would note that this is not a walker or wheelchair appropriate site due to steps leading down into the casa as well as bathtub accessibility; not a criticism, just an observation.) I hope to return next year!

    The location of this heritage listed home is excellent, with easy access to many restaurants and shops without having to drive. Getting to and from Taos Ski Valley is easy. The beds were very comfortable, the washer/dryer worked well, and the hot tub was ready to use on arrival. The only negative was the difficulty opening the front door - the handle/latch needs some attention.

    Casa Carlos is truly a gem! The home is absolutely gorgeous and outfitted with everything an authentic New Mexican home should have. It was clean, had all of the amenities you'd expect and more. The living room was spacious and relaxing and we very much enjoyed the Kiva fireplace. I’d also LOVE to know where the adorable stuffed cactus sitting by the entry came from. I would purchase one in a heartbeat. The master bedroom is rather large and accommodating. The second bedroom is a little small, but when in Taos, who’s spending much time sleeping anyway?! The bathroom is also very large with a wonderful bathtub overlooking the beautiful backyard. The dining area is small as well, but just right for us. The skylights above the table really gives the room a great ambiance. The kitchen was very spacious and there was plenty of room to cook. It was fully stocked with dishes and silverware, which was very nice. There really aren't words for the beautiful backyard. It's peaceful and quiet and I enjoyed a couple of evenings looking at the milky way and listening to the coyotes howl in the distance. For a moment, I forgot I was even in Taos. It felt like I was in a remote part of NM. The home is in walking distance to the Plaza, shops, restaurants and more. The only downside (and it's so tiny that it wasn't a big deal or a deal-breaker) is that there is only room to park one vehicle. Taos has always held a special place in my heart since I was a teenager. After experiencing Casa Carlos, it does even more so. I would live in this home forever if I could. Just writing this review has me daydreaming that I'm back there right now. Casa Carlos will definitely be our "go-to" rental in Taos from now on. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home.

    Never staying in Taos before we were a little surprised about how close Casa Carlos sat to the road but soon realized that is the standard for the area. Although the front window is by the road there is so little traffic on that road that we never were disturbed by traffic noise. The smaller room does have a window next to the shared drive but only our vehicle sat there; the neighbor who shares the drive parks on the other side so no other vehicles should ever be there but yours. Also, the neighbor, is not one to intrude on your stay. Only saw neighbor as they were coming & going, cordial but does not intrude on your visit. I on the other hand, like to visit. The neighbor was very very nice & knows the area. Neighbor does have a pet but she only barked from her front window as we were coming & going just to alert us we were on her turf (the shared driveway). We never heard neighbor pup once while in the back yard. Casa Carol has a lovely courtyard with beautiful blooming flowers & private maintained hot tub. I saw lots of butterflies & enjoyed the water feature. The home is centrally located & very close to the Town Plaza. The homes manager was very accommodating & we never had to wait long for a response. She left some local info on the writing desk which was very helpful. We enjoyed our stay there. It is comfortable & welcoming & the property is well maintained. I'm hopeful to stay there again in the future. The photos on the website are what you will find but know that the Casa Carlos is attached to a longer building that is listed for sale. We felt safe & very comfortable at Casa Carlos. If you are looking for a place centrally located that is well maintained, comfortable, cozy with privacy while in the yard this is it.
    We recommend Casa Carlos!

    The unit was beautiful and the courtyard in the back was an added bonus! We enjoyed the hot tub and quiet evenings listening to the lovely water feature in the extremely well landscaped courtyard. The size of the unit was just perfect for the two of us. It even had a desk where I could set up my laptop. The kitchen was well equipped and a pleasure to work in although breakfast was the only meal we cooked. We took advantage of all the great dining spots in Taos and enjoyed the great food and great service.
    The management company that takes care of this unit is top notch. Everything was clean and well supplied.
    Taos is a charming little town with lots to do and this unit is within walking distance of the Plaza as well as some museums, galleries, restaurants and shops.
    I would love to come back and stay for a longer period of time next year. We loved it!

    We rented Casa Carlos for 10 nights over Christmas this year and loved everything about it. The house is comfortable and full of character. The short walk into town is easy and interesting and both our teenage kids could manage it on their own. We did all our Christmas shopping around the plaza on foot. The stores are full of high quality, hand made items and the shop keepers are very personable so getting ready for Christmas was a true pleasure. We loved the fascinating history of the house, watching the birds use the feeder in the snowy back yard, and enjoying the hot tub nearly every night. In the mornings my husband and I often went for walks around the neighborhood, appreciating the adobe architecture and artful character of Taos. Case Carlos was a perfect home base for a wonderful Christmas.

    Casa Carlos is a perfect example of a historic Taos home with all of the modern amenities any traveler appreciates.     This was our second stay at Casa Carlos. We are enchanted by Taos and try to get there often. The current owners have put a lot of thought and work into remodeling the bathroom and the delightful back garden. Since the Casa is so close to town, we can leave the car and walk to everything I the historic town center. The management company does outstanding work to keep the home spotless and kitchen cupboards well supplied. A magic place for two to get away and experience adobe life.

    Casa Carlos is even better in person than in pictures. It is a charming and well appointed vacation home that is totally private and quiet yet conveniently located to everything. The home is small but lives much larger than it looks. There were 2 adults and 2 teens staying for a week and we never felt crowded. The kitchen is bright, lovely and comfortable for real cooking. We enjoyed hot tubbing in the snowy backyard after skiing. The home was decorated with a Christmas tree when we arrived which we thought was a very nice touch and on one of our first days the owners dropped a bottle of wine on our doorstep on their way through town. Lovely!

    Casa Carlos was peaceful, super clean and quaint. The casa was wonderfully decorated and comfortable for the 3 of us ladies for 3 nights. The kitchen was nicely set up with dishes, glasses, utensils and coffee maker, plus more! The adobe building was historic and the backyard was complete with a hot tub, was peaceful to sit outside and neighbors' houses were virtually invisible. Casa Carlos had a great location to the plaza, a helpful staff when setting up the reservation and comfy beds! It was one of the highlights of our stay, being at Casa Carlos! We walked to all our meals in town and had a spectacular visit!
