    We have stayed at the Hidden River House three times so far, over the past six years, and have recommended it to others. For us, the expansive, peaceful views and particularly the bird feeders, which bring in all kinds of birds (and even a small marmot this trip), are a real joy to watch. One of the first things we do when we arrive is to buy birdseed and fill them up. (Highly recommend!)

    The bed is comfortable. The BBQ is fun, and making a fire in the kiva fireplace on a cold evening or morning is delightful. The place is well maintained, and not sterile like some places -- you feel like you're in someone's home and they care about it.

    Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hidden River House. We never did see the river-facing ramada because of extreme heat during our stay. The house has an evaporative cooler and fans that we made use of to keep cool overnight. House itself is comfortable with lots of space. It was nice to have morning coffee on the back patio. It looks like for future guests, some of the formerly unobstructed views will change as there is a new home being built nearby (crews were digging a well during our stay and ran a generator 24/7 for multiple days, thankfully it was quiet during the weekend)....and other structures are on other sides of the home. It did not bother us since the property is still remote and mostly quiet. We liked that the home was well outside Taos itself. Comfortable and well stocked! We would stay here again for a future visit.

    We had a beautiful stay. This was our second time at the property in 3 years. The views of the mountains and the bird feeders can't be beat. We saw hawks multiple times -- close up, too, as one landed on the fence -- and even a coyote a couple of times, which is always fleeting and always feels like magic.

    The beds are comfortable. The fireplace is dreamy.

    Happy with our experience. Clean and neat home. Two problems: outside motion detector lights don't work all of the time. Master bedroom heat could not get above 65 degrees.

    Well, it didn't start too well. We came in, and noticed the kitchen area wasn't very clean, especially the floor. There was some old food in the refrigerator, dust, etc. I called the local contact, and she did apologize, and come out the next day to make it right. Very good response. The house is beautiful, love the setting. The views are outstanding. We enjoyed the patio area, and the ramada. The kitchen is well stocked. There are a lot of personal items here, as in art work, books etc. The house would benefit from a deep cleaning in my opinion.

    The house is well-maintained and you really feel like you are in someone’s home instead of a sterile rental unit. Wonderful right furnishings With the most beautiful views of the mountains and gorgeous sunsets. The management company was very professional and nice. Will definitely use them again.

    This is absolutely our favorite home away from home. We’ve stayed here at least six times, we love it!

    This house is comfy, cozy and welcoming. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, bake and host friends. The beds and bedding are good quality and so comfortable. We love the fireplace and the cute living room for watching movies and hanging out. The outdoor spaces are a huge bonus.

    The patio is sweet and has gorgeous views. We recommend buying bird seed and filling up the feeders to enjoy mountain jays, songbirds, bunnies and other wildlife year round.

    In the summer, the house is cool. In the winter, the heated floors are so warm and cozy. With River access for fly fishing and the 360 views, you can really enjoy how beautiful Taos is.

    This was our latest time staying at Hidden River. We love it, the house is decorated very nicely, the kitchen is well-appointed so you can actually cook and the whole place is so comfy. Beds are cozy, with good mattresses and linens. The bath is nice. The outdoor spaces are well done, places to sit and enjoy the 360 views as well as birds, bunnies and quail that come to feed at night. I think it was our 5th or 6th time staying here and we’ll be back in late winter. Perfect house for all seasons, as long as you have 4x4.

    Great place to stay outside of Taos

    We stayed at this peaceful house for a month. The sunset views were incredible every night! Nice 10 min walk to the river. 15 min drive into town and less than 10 mins to the Rift Valley trails or 30 mins to ski area for hiking. The house was light-filled and well equipped. The minor issues we had were taken care of quickly.

    Beautiful, restful adobe retreat

    We really enjoyed our visit to the Hidden River House. It was the perfect base to explore Taos - secluded but less than an hour from skiing, 15 min to Taos old-town, near the Rio Grande gorge. We walked with small children and an elderly dog to the hidden river every day, and sat out a snowstorm reading house-books by the lovely fire, taking in the outstanding views all around the house. Kitchen was great for cooking, and had everything needed (bring ground coffee!). House was perfect for our family of 4. I am looking forward to my next visit!

    My partner and I traveled into Taos, after staying with some family in Carlsbad for a couple of weeks. We are avid travelers, and typically like to stay away from the hustle and bustle, in private homes. This home exceeded any expectation we may have had. Beautiful scenery, tasteful decor, private and sterilized. We will stay again.

    This property was perfect for us in so many way. It was about 20 minutes from Taos, which was great, and yet when we were at the house we felt like we were the only ones up on the mesa. It was incredibly peaceful and the views are stunning, we loved it so much. We also fell in love with the bird feeders and enjoyed watching the birds come and go all day long. We were able to spot a couple of coyotes which was magical, and some hawks, too.

    We had a couple of challenges, but the house's caretaker was very responsive to our needs throughout. And we even received a call from the owner at one point to make sure we were being taken care of, she was very kind.

    (We stayed for a month.)

    We really loved it and would love to come back.

    We enjoyed a perfect week at the Hidden River House. We very much appreciated the owner allowing us to bring our dogs with us. This house is located in a very quiet spot with beautiful views nd friendly neighbors. A short walk to the hidden river, you may see the bighorn and prong horn sheep that frequent that spot. We loved listening to the coyotes howl in the morning as the sun was coming up. The house has one of the best appointed kitchens with everything you need to cook up a feast. We especially enjoyed the multiple outdoor sitting areas around the house, especially the private Ramada, perfect for happy hour. Thanks so much for sharing this home and we hope to come back one day.

    Location is not too far from Taos yet provides considerable privacy. Good place to photograph the Milky Way at night. We did some climbing (Wheeler, Walter, Bull of the Woods Mts) hiking along Rio Grande and window shopping. Excellent weather. Enjoyed the stay.

    Spent four nights which went too quickly. The house was well equipped, nicely decorated and in a quiet area among other similar rentals. Rain had turned the access road into a muddy mess, be aware.

    We absolutely loved A Hidden River House. My husband declared it, "the best vacation rental we've had." The location was spectacular. The property manager gave us clear directions on finding it. The house is close to town but felt very secluded. The views were amazing (not to mention the stars every evening). The house was clean, well equipped, and had pretty much everything we needed. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. We appreciated our dogs could stay too! We can't wait to return.

    Wonderful time at the Hidden River House. So fully equiped it was great. Sorry the “river” was down to a murky trickle and there was no fishing, but there were plenty of big horn sheep to see. For the most part it was cool and cloudy, but we had one night that was spectacular for star gazing. We loved our stay.

    Wonderful place to stay when in the Taos area. The location afforded 360 degree uninterrupted views with spectacular sunsets and night skies that were just magical! The home is beautifully appointed, very clean, and comfortable. Enjoyed the short hike to the hidden River and being able to cook and eat outside. We're highly recommend a stay at Hidden River House when in Taos!!

    This house is just as pictured! Clean, inviting, and the perfect size for my family of five. A peaceful getaway for sure!

    A few things to note:

    * This property is truly out of town as the description says. Expect 15 minutes to get to the Plaza area. (Fine by us as we wanted to be away from the town).
    * Another review mentioned this, but try to arrive during daylight. I can see how it would be very difficult to find the first time at night. Your phone GPS will NOT get you there so you need to have the printed directions with you!
    * The hidden river is about 1/2 mile away from the house - not as accessible as I had hoped for my kiddos.
    * The kitchen had everything you could need but the coffee pot is nearing the end of its life!
    * The instructions on the agreement mention taking trash to the dumpster that is "up the hill" upon checkout. We could not find a dumpster anywhere! We drove our trash with us to the next town before we found a dumpster.

    Overall, this is a lovely, well maintained property!

    Taos Visit in May

    Our family loved the Hidden River House! One of the best VRBO's we have rented. The house was very clean, nicely decorated, and had everything you needed to cook meals. The beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable. The outdoor areas were great and we enjoyed walking to the "hidden river"! Our dog loved going for walks on the dirt road. We liked that fact that the house was in a peaceful location, and we were easily able to drive into Taos and the mountains. The owners had a very helpful book filled with restaurants,hiking trails and Taos activities.

    This house is so cozy and comfy. We loved how homey it was. It's beautifully decorated and very well appointed. The location is also great. Close enough to Taos but definitely not in town. With the river. Early, we spent whole afternoons fly fishing and catching great fish.

    Of all of the rental homes we have stayed in, this has to be one the very top 2 or 3. Great remote, quiet, star-filled location. Lots for the kids to do (swingset, play in the river, hike, firepit, etc.). Great amenities (grill, light and bright unit, great kitchen, fireplace that we did not use, etc.). The property manager was terrific, responsive, and thougthful. Overall, a great week and none of us wanted to leave.

    Lined up this house for a four night get away from the Texas heat. Was just the wife and I So this was plenty of room for us. House was neat clean and stocked with everyhing you might need. Location is good and just far enough out of town to be somewhat secluded but easy drive to town. Only negative was the road leading in and out was a little rough. It rained while we were there and that didn't help much. Overall it was a great choice and would go back anytime.

    Having had a wonderful experience staying in "a Hidden River House" in the summer months, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving in Taos this year and were delighted that the Hidden River House was available. Cold temperatures and a warm fireplace in this cozy bungalow was just what we had hoped for. We arrived after dark on a very cold night to find lights on in the house, warm temperature and nice music. As usual, the special touches are unmatched by any other rentals we have experienced.

    Casita with a View

    This casita was a little off the beaten path yet convenient to Taos.
    The views were sublime? Every evening we sat outside to watch the sun set
    and because there was a full moon we would head back outside to see the rising of the moon. The casita was spacious and well appointed. Loved every minute of being there,

    The location of A Hidden River House is perfect. It is close enough to Taos to be convenient but far enough out of town and away from the main road to feel as if you are away from it all. You can see both the sunrise and sunset from the house and star gazing is magnificent. The house is very comfortable and has everything you need. Several of the reviews spoke about issues with cell service; we did not have issues using our cell phones at the house.

    This was our favorite place to stay while in NM and AZ for 11 days. The mesa and mountain views were amazing! The interior décor was done to perfection, yet made you feel right at home. Our only regret was not staying longer. Taos area made for an excellent "hub" as we did day trips.

    We had a very relaxing time. We just needed to get away to recharge and that is exactly what we did. This place was quiet and isolated but still had the amenities one expects in a fine hotel. We loved sitting outside at night and viewing the million stars. One thing that would have added greatly to our stay would be a hot tub to sit in with a glass of wine in the cool night air, under the magnificent night sky.

    My only regret is that I was unable to stay longer than 5 nights, 4 days! This is a beautifully decorated space and the 180 degree views are magnificent! Might not work as well for those wanting to be closer to town, but the 6 mile drive to town was not a problem, as I wanted the peace and quiet and views. I hope to return next year and stay longer!
